Choose between Brecon Beacons or Snowdonia for canyoning / gorge walking in Wales, an epic group adventure!

Ever considered canyoning in South Wales or Snowdonia? It’s an outdoor activity lover’s dream and our best seller in Wales! As an adventure canyoning has something for everyone. We will take you exploring in a Welsh rainforest, jumping into rock-pools, abseiling down waterfalls, gliding off natural water-slides and down rapids. Canyoning pushes your boundaries in a stunning environment where our routes are easily adjusted to the confidence levels in your group. There is sometimes confusion about the differences between canyoning and gorge walking. They are essentially the same thing, only canyoning involves ropework and gorge walking is more free-flowing (we offer both but refer to it as canyoning which is more internationally known). If you love outdoor adventures, you may also like to check out our Outdoor Activities Wales page.

Pictures & Video

What better way to capture those special moments than having us there as your very own media crew? We will be there like proud hosts and we include pictures and a personalised highlights video. We love adventure travel and the smiles it puts on everyone’s faces. We get a real buzz from putting together the highlights and sharing them with you after the trip.

Photos and video are typically included in the day tours and multi-night trips only, but we can on request try and include pictures in activity only. It depends on our instructors.

How much will canyoning cost?

All our day and multi-night packages are 100% tailor-made for you! So, we can create a Big Blue Adventure to suit specific budgets and what you would like to include for the perfect adventure. The more activities and package elements you include the more that package will cost. It also depends on your final numbers in the group, generally larger groups have a cheaper per person rate over smaller groups as there are more people to split the core package costs between. Best thing to do is request a quote – it costs you nothing to start the ball rolling and say hello, we can send a great package your way from there.

Activity only sales for canyoning vary on location, level of adventure and again size within the groups, you could be looking at something between £40 – £80 per person.

When you’re ready to book your adventure we simply start with a 30% non-refundable deposit to confirm it all. The final balance is typically required no later than 3 weeks before your activity date for day tours or 6 weeks for multi-night packages. Most customers pay by bank transfer, but we can also accept debit and credit card transaction upon request.

We can also make some changes between the deposit and the final balance payment. Such as amending a few dropouts / attendee increases, or making some package changes within reason. For further information please do see our terms and conditions.

What to bring

To take part in canyoning all you need is:

  • A pair of old spare trainers – like a gym shoe / sneaker with sturdy sole and something you don’t mind getting wet, muddy and roughed up on the rocks
  • Swimwear or spare underwear for under the wetsuit. Try and avoid boardies as anything baggy can be very uncomfortable under a wetsuit
  • If you have a pair handy then old shorts to go over the wetsuits can be useful to help us protect the wetsuit. They can get ripped up though so only if you have an old pair!
  • A towel
  • Suncream
  • Water (please try and avoid throw away single use plastic!)
  • Any medication you need to keep on you, such as an asthma pump or EpiPen etc

All the essential kit is included; wetuits, helmets, buoyancy aids and any climbing gear. On our package tours we also bring cosy poncho towel changing ponchos so you can use those instead of your bath towels.

Note: no climbing harnesses required in Brecon Beacons as this area is technically ‘gorge walking’, or canyoning without ropes!

Are meals & drinks included?

We can include lunch, a packed lunch or dinner after the canyoning with drinks. It all depends on what type of meal you want, how much budget you have for the meal and free time. We work with some amazing local pubs closer to the canyoning or we can stop by restaurants and establishments such as a Welsh wine tasting with or gin tasting with food. We can work on this to fit the itinerary and plans!

Group size

Minimum numbers are 6 people typically due to the cost to run a day tour or multi-night adventure. But please contact us if you have less than 6 and wish to explore a Big Blue Adventure for your group.

What a great company!! Over the course of two days we went canyoning through the Brecon Beacons,... had a motivation speech from Andrew Cotten and went quad biking through Taff Valley. All three events offered a brilliant experience and lots of fun, particularly the canyoning which was superb. Couldn’t recommend Big Blue Adventures enough, thanks again Dan and Heleen!!read more

A great stag weekend hosted by Heleen & Dan. Heleen was the most patient person in the world with... COVID caused delays, changes in numbers, adjusting costs to make things work etc for 2 years before the day! On the day Dan & Heleen were really friendly, helpful & made everything super easy, relaxed and good fun. Heleen joined us for Canyoning while Dan photographed the group and having them involved in the activity was great - they really encouraged people to get the most out of the experience without pushing too hard out of their comfort zone. I would thoroughly recommend Big Blue Adventures and would have no hesitation in looking to them if we were exploring South Wales again!! Thank you guys so much!read more

Daniel and Heleen from Big Blue Adventures helped the Passle team to have the most amazing team... building trip in Madeira. Our days were filled with a big array of adventures, including canyoning (OMG what fun!!!), mountain biking, 4x4 discovery tour, wine tasting, tobogganing, poncha making, dolphin watching, sailing, swimming, tasting local amazing food, and more. Both Dan and Heleen and the local guides were fabulous, fun to have around, really good at their job. On top of it, all the silliness was dutifully and expertly documented. Thank you for the most epic times, guys!read more

Why We Love This…

“Canyoning in Wales is so much fun because it has a lot of different sections, it’s not just jumping or just scrambling, it is a bit of everything. The gorge makes it a very flexible activity, there are no swells or currents to worry about and if it rains.. who cares, you’re in the rainforest after all!”
