2 Minute Beach Clean

beach clean In the winter of 2013 Martin Dorey started an initiative with which he wanted to connect like-minded people and clean up the beaches in the UK. There is so much pollution in the sea and on the beaches these days, that marine life is suffering. Fish, seals & seabirds get stuck in nets or swallow plastic and because of this, their numbers are decreasing. Something major needs to happen to really turn this around and get the oceans clean again. But every little bit helps, starting with yourself.

Martin came up with the initiative #2minutebeachclean, only 2 minutes per time, but every time you go to the beach. Something that doesn’t take a lot of effort or time, but something that makes a difference to your local beach. Today, thousands of people have already joined the community and are posting their beach clean ups to Instagram or Facebook. With the help of donations and selling merchandise, the #2minutebeachclean initiative has been able to promote their cause, giving lectures in schools and producing beach clean stations to make it easier for the beach goer to clean up litter.

Rhossili Bay & Llangennith Beach are two of our favourite adventure spots for organising a Big Blue Adventure. Coasteering, Supping and Surfing are all held around these coastlines and the beaches here are stunning. As a way to give back to our playgrounds, we are joining the initiative and adding a #2minutebeachclean to each of our trips.

Not only are we doing #2minutebeachcleans ourselves, we are also organising an event to promote this great initiative and to raise money. The first bank holiday weekend of May 2017 is going to be filled with live-music and good beers at NosDa Hostel & Bar in Cardiff. Together with Crafty Devil Brewery we are creating our very own ‘Big Blue Beer’ and the design of our ‘surfy’ looking can will include #2minutebeachclean. These beers will be sold during the event (and for a limited time after that as well), part of the profit will go to the initiative. We will also have some money buckets in place where guests can choose how much they’d like to donate themselves. We will have our own Big Blue Adventures stall with info on all the outdoor activities we are organising in 2017, some goodies to win from our sponsors Two Seasons and a Big Blue adventure will be up for grabs as well!
