Eventually we find the fish!

After much time spent dragging fishing lures behind the boat and catching nothing much but Barracuda we finally do what the charter fishing boats do and use "Ballyhoo" a small fish who's life is spent avoiding being eaten by just about everything else in the sea. The fish everybody is trying to catch is Mahi Mahi, also called Dolphin or Dorado, it's name varies depending on where in the world you are. These fish are fantastic to eat but first you have to get them on the boat. The Mahi Mahi pictured below left is about 35lbs and took about 30 minutes to get on board, by this time we were both exhausted.

Having managed to get it on the boat twice it managed to get away and ended back in the water, finally the third time it comes aboard the hook comes out. Hanging on to my supper is difficult as these fish are incredibly strong. Fortunately it is a calm day at sea and and we manage to keep it on board.

Top Right ----Suzanne shows off a Bar Jack she caught near Cat Island.

Bottom Right--- Barracuda. These are fun to catch at first, however as you don't eat the bigger ones for health reasons, they soon become a pest by snapping your line and damaging the fishing lures. Their rows of razor sharp teeth make handling them an unpopular job.
