Spanish Wells

Spanish Wells is in the Northern part of the Bahamas. As you visit the different island in the Bahamas you really do see very different communities and lifestyles. The island we had visited so far had been occupied by black Bahamians, however here in Spanish Wells and further north is the Abacos is mostly white Bahamians.

In the background of this pictures you can see the fishing boats at the dock.

The Bahamas is well known for it's abundance of Spiny Lobsters and here in Spanish Wells this small community and it's fleet of fishing boats accounts for at least 80% of all the lobsters exported from the Bahamas.

We were all amazed at the island, the fishing boats and houses were all newly painted and the gardens were beautifully kept. The roads were clean and their was no litter anywhere. The people were very friendly.

The local boat yard was one of the few places with a lift big enough to haul a catamaran, so we took the opportunity to have the anti-foul paint which stops the barnacles and other growth from growing on the bottom of the boat.

While the boat is out of the water we clean, wax and polish all the bits we can't normally get to.

The island is so small the main transport here is by golf cart, everybody has one and we rented one for the day to tour the island.
