Musha Cay is as controversial island in the Bahamas. The law on buying an island or Cay states that the owner could only own the land to the point where the water reaches at high tide.
This means that you can land your dinghy and walk the beach as long as you don't go beyond the high tide mark. Most private islands allow you to use and walk their beaches with no problem.
In return the visitor respects their right to own an island and have privacy and we don't stray inland any further.
At $20,000 a night Musha Cay is an exclusive holiday destination of the very rich. The island owners have a piece of official paperwork which they produce each time a boat even anchors near their island saying they own all the water in front of the island and it's all private.
It appears that the Bahamian government are still unable to resist a pile of cash. No one political with talk about the situation but the islands hench men have been know to chase people away with guns if they are slow to pick up anchor.
As we sailed by to get these pictures a guy appeared on a the dock and began waving at us in an angrily to keep away. As we happily waved back he became very angry and looked less than friendly . The madder he got the more we waved. It was very funny. |
